Men's Soccer Heads to Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Connecticut — The Marist men's soccer team looks to pick up another crucial three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference points on the road, when the Red Foxes head down to Quinnipiac for a match at the Bobcats on Saturday (2 p.m.)

LAST TIME OUT:

Marist is coming off a 3-1 road win at Niagara on Wednesday. The Red Foxes got on the board first in the 30th minute when a scrum just outside the box gave freshman Allen Gavilanes the ball and he found an open sophomore Michael Lorello behind the defense who buried it into the far left corner for the 1-0 lead.

One minute into the second half, senior co-captain Kevin Kappock sent a throw in down the right sideline to a streaking Lorello whose cross found sophomore Samad Bounthong in the box for the one timer goal. Just a few minutes later, a Red Fox free kick bounced around inside the box before Gavilanes collected it on the left side and rocketed a shot inside the near post for the 3-0 lead. Roughly 16 minutes later, the Purple Eagles we awarded a penalty after a Marist foul inside the box and Niagara found the back of the net to trim the deficit to 3-1. With the two goal lead, the Red Foxes ran down the clock and secured the 3-1 win.

MAAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Sophomore forward David Nkansah-Siriboe was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer Offensive Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday.

The award is the second accolade for Nkansah-Siriboe this season who was also named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 28th.

Nkansah-Siriboe finished with one goal and one assist in the Red Foxes 3-2 OT win vs Monmouth on Wednesday, Oct. 11th. He tied the game at 1-1 in the 27th minute with his fourth goal of the season and then found Kevin Kappock outside the box for the game winning goal with 40 seconds left in overtime.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS:

Quinnipiac enters the game at 4-8-1 (3-3-0 MAAC) and are coming off a 1-0 win at Manhattan on Saturday.

Junior Matthew Taylor leads the team with two goals, five points, is second with 20 shots and is tied for second with one assist. 

Graduate student James Doig is tied for first with 11 shots and is tied for second with two assists and four points.

Sophomore Chrysostomos Iakovidis has played all 1,193:57 minutes in goal for the Bobcats and is 4-8-1 with 14 goals against, 30 saves, a 1.06 goals against average and a .682 save percentage.

Following the match at Quinnipiac, the Red Foxes return home and square off against the Canisius Golden Griffins at Tenney Stadium on Wednesday (7 p.m.)
