HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Marist volleyball team continued its streak of shutout wins in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, getting its fourth conference victory at Quinnipiac in straight sets Oct. 4 (25-22, 25-16, 25-19).
Â
The Red Foxes moved to 7-10 overall and 4-2 in MAAC competition while the Bobcats dropped to 6-15 overall and 5-3 in conference play after a contest decided by late runs.
Â
Turning Points:
With sophomore
Nikki DeSerpa serving up a pair of aces, Marist stormed to an 8-1 lead out of the gate. Quinnipiac then pulled within a point with an 8-2 run of its own. After Marist sided out the Bobcats ripped off seven of the next eight points for force a Marist timeout. Four more DeSerpa kills put Marist back ahead but both sides continued to trade points. The Red Foxes kept the ball on their side of the net with three straight and were able to close out for the early edge.
Â
Neither team led by more than three until consecutive Quinnipiac kills put it up 10-6 in the second stanza. Some service aces from freshman
Sarah Austin highlighted a 9-2 run as the Bobcats' lead evaporated. Unforced errors and kills from sophomore
Megan Fergus and junior
