POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist women's basketball plays their second game of the season on Tuesday, November 14
th when they host non-conference opponent Holy Cross. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in McCann Arena.
The Red Foxes are 0-7 all-time against the Crusaders and last played them during the 2016-2017 campaign, when Marist fell to Holy Cross on the road by a score of 50-46.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE CRUSADERS
Rebekah Hand compiled the first double-double of her collegiate career, scoring 20 points and adding 11 rebounds in the loss.
Lovisa Henningsdottir stuffed the stats sheet, scoring three points, grabbing eight rebounds, dishing three assists, recording two blocks and adding three steals.
PREVIOUS OUTING
In their previous outing at home, the Red Foxes hosted the Navy Midshipmen. Marist would head into the 4
th quarter with a 10-point lead. However, the Red Foxes missed multiple free throws towards the end of the game, later losing by a 77-70 margin. What was a strength last season for Marist, the team combined to shoot just over 45% from the free throw line against Navy.
After sitting out a year due to transfer eligibility, redshirt sophomore
Alana Gilmer scored 14 points and added eight boards in her first career game as a Red Fox. Redshirt junior
Allie Clement netted five points and two assists in 26 minutes of action. This was the guard's first game back since tearing her knee injury last season.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Two freshman made a major presence for Head Coach
Brian Giorgis in the loss on Saturday against the Midshipmen. Forward
Willow Duffell, who cracked the starting lineup for Marist, posted a double-double in her first career regular season game (13 points, eight rebounds). Another freshman that made some noise was guard
Allie Best. In 14 minutes of action, the freshman scored six points and added an assist, a steal, and a block on the night.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
In their first game of the 2017-2018 campaign, the Crusaders were victorious against UMass Lowell by an 84-56 margin. Lauren Manis, a sophomore forward, led the way for Holy Cross, scoring 21 points in the win. Infiniti Thomas-Waheed finished right behind Manis, netting 19 points and adding four rebounds. The senior guard was the third-leading scorer for the Crusaders last season.
