LOWELL, Massachusetts – The Marist men's basketball suffered a 76-73 loss at UMass Lowell in a non-conference game on Wednesday night. The Red Foxes are now 0-2, while the River Hawks improved to 2-1.
 
Summary

• Although the margin remained in single digits the entire time, and there were five ties, Marist never led.
• Marist committed turnovers on three of its first four possessions, and four in the first seven minutes as UMass Lowell jumped out to a 16-9 lead.
• UMass Lowell's lead peaked at nine with 9:58 left in the first half, as a Stefan Borovec layup made the score 23-14.
• Marist battled back to tie the game twice in the first half. A layup by junior guard Brian Parker knotted the score at 31 at the 4:07 mark, and junior forward Isaiah Lamb had a three-point play at 3:10.
• UMass Lowell answered shortly thereafter with a 6-0 spurt, which enabled the River Hawks to take a 48-43 lead to the locker room.
• Marist cut its deficit to one on three occasions in the second half, but was never able to tie or take the lead.
• UMass Lowell was able to extend its lead thanks to three three-pointers in the final 5:03. All three were assisted by Jahad Thomas, with two coming following an offensive rebound by Thomas.
• With 26 seconds to play, Parker's basket made the score 74-71. Shawn Jones then missed the front end of a one-and-one, but the Red Foxes never drew closer than three.

• Marist committed 17 turnovers to UMass Lowell's 11. The River Hawks held a 23-6 advantage in points off turnovers.
• Marist held a 39-38 edge in rebounds. However, UMass Lowell had 13 offensive rebounds (10 by Thomas), and led 20-7 in second chance points.
• UMass Lowell shot 10-for-27 (.370) from three-point range. Marist was 5-for-21 (.238) from deep.
• Parker led Marist three double-digit scorers with 22 points, followed by junior guard David Knudsen with 18 and Lamb with 11. Knudsen shot 6-for-7 from the field, 2-for-2 from three-point range, and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Red-shirt sophomore forward Dozic had team highs in rebounds (11) and assists (seven) to go along with eight points.
• Matt Harris led all scorers with 23, thanks to seven three-pointers. Thomas finished with 21 points, 17 rebounds, and eight assists.

 
Notes

• This is the second time Marist and UMass Lowell have met. Both teams prevailed on their home floor.
• After just eight Red Foxes saw action in the season opener against Lehigh, 11 played against UMass Lowell. Freshmen Lasse Gummerus, and Austin Williams made their first collegiate appearances. Gummerus hit a three-pointer. Classmate Andrea Bernardi, who played four minutes against Lehigh, had two points and five rebounds in 11 minutes.
• Dating back to last season, Parker has scored at least 20 points in three straight games, and 15 games in his career.
