Red Foxes Drop Final Game At Rainbow Wahine Showdown

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Marist women's basketball team would fall to the Purdue Boilermakers, 61-47, in its final game at the Rainbow Wahine Showdown Sunday afternoon. With the loss the Red Foxes are now 1-5 overall while Purdue improves to 5-2 overall.

SUMMARY
Purdue would open up by outscoring the Red Foxes in each quarter, 17-11 in the first and 18-12 in the second to take a 35-23 lead into halftime. The Red Foxes trailed by as many as 15 in the first half but a half-court buzzer beating three from Alana Gilmer brought the deficit back down to 12 heading into the lockers.

Purdue would come out of the half moving the ball with precision and shooting efficiently, the Red Foxes would hold Purdue to just 1-for-5 shooting in the third but the Boilermakers would still outshoot the Red Foxes in the third and take a 51-34 lead into the final stanza. Marist would outscore Purdue 13-10 in the fourth quarter including holding the Boilermakers without a field goal for the final six minutes and scoreless for the final three but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback.

KEY STATS
  • Purdue came out the gates hot, shooting 43 percent in the first quarter and then 54 percent in the second period.
  • Purdue held the edge in points in the paint (28-24), and second chance points (20-4).
  • The Red Foxes led in bench points 11-0.
  • Marist's highest shooting quarter came in the third as the Red Foxes converted on 5-for-13 of their looks, good for 39 percent.
  • The Boilermakers made it to the free-throw stripe 15 times, converting on 11. The Red Foxes made 11 trips to the line, making seven.

  • Rebekah Hand would pace the Red Foxes again with 18 points and seven rebounds to go along with two assists.
  • Alana Gilmer was the Red Foxes second scorer in doubles digits, as she tallied 11 points, pulled down four rebounds, and shot 50 percent (4-for-8) from the field.

After flying home from Hawaii, the Red Foxes will have a quick prep and get ready to travel to face Seton Hall on Thursday, November 30th at 7:00 p.m.
