Gene Smith Resigns As Marist Women’s Soccer Head Coach

Smith Guided Red Foxes To 8-8-3 Record In 2017

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Director of Athletics Tim Murray has announced that Gene Smith has resigned as head coach of the school's women's soccer team to pursue other professional opportunities.

"I'm grateful to Tim Murray for the opportunity to coach the Marist women's soccer team," Smith said. "I was proud of our student-athletes' commitment and how we competed. I wish the program and the Athletics Department the best moving forward."

Smith served as head coach for the 2017 season, as the Red Foxes posted records of 8-8-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Freshman Nicole Sasso was named Second Team All-MAAC and to the conference's All-Rookie Team, while freshman Jillian Colucci was also selected to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.

"I've enjoyed working with Gene over the past two years, and I wish him tremendous success in his next endeavor," Murray said.

Smith joined the Marist program as an assistant coach prior to the 2016 season. He has over a dozen years of experience as a head coach and assistant coach across the Division I, II, and III levels.

A national search for the next Marist women's soccer head coach will begin immediately.
