Women's Basketball Falters In Fourth Falling To Dartmouth

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Dartmouth Big Green picked up a come from behind win over the Marist women's basketball team Saturday evening in non-conference action at McCann Arena. The Red Foxes drop to 1-7 on the season while Dartmouth improves to 5-1.

SUMMARY
Dartmouth came out strong in the first, netting an early 11-6 advantage in the middle of the quarter. The Red Foxes were able to keep it close thanks to a big block from red-shirt junior Alana Gilmer, and layups from Gilmer, junior Maura Fitzpatrick, and freshman Allie Best. Dartmouth held a five-point advantage after one, 15-10.

In the second quarter, Dartmouth stretched their lead to 19-10, but the Red Foxes quickly brought it back. Gilmer swished a three and followed that up with a layup. Fitzpatrick and red-shirt freshman Molly Smith each added layups, then Fitzpatrick hit two free throws to give the Red Foxes the lead with 25 seconds left. Fitzpatrick and Gilmer tied for the team lead in points with seven each at the half.

Gilmer would start off the third quarter with a three and it would be all Red Foxes from there. Gilmer would have two layups with fouls, swishing the free throws on both. Freshman Willow Duffell would add a three-point play of her own and the Red Foxes would lead 45-40 after three.

The fourth quarter turned and was all Dartmouth as the Big Green would lock down on the defensive end and take the lead with 1:30 remaining. Dartmouth would outscore the Red Foxes 20-6 in the final period including a 12-0 run to finish the game. Dartmouth would go 12-for-12 from the foul line to seal the victory.
