POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team picked up a 64-42 home win over University of Rhode Island, snapping a six-game losing streak, Wednesday evening at McCann Arena. The win moves the Red Foxes to 2-7 overall while the loss drops Rhode Island to 1-7.

SUMMARY – The Red Foxes jumped out to a 14-11 lead after the first quarter and went on to hold the lead throughout the majority of the half. The offense started to find some positive momentum near the end of the half going on a 13-4 run to jump out to a 29-20 lead at the break.

The Red Foxes took their first double digit lead with in the third quarter three from
Hannah Hand, which sparked a third quarter offensive explosion that included an 18-0 run. The Red Foxes finished with 20 points in the quarter pulling away from a Rhode Island team that had no answer for Marist in the second half.

KEY STATS
- Maura Fitzpatrick led all scorers with 16 points, 10 coming in the second half.
- The Red Foxes were excellent from the free point line in the first half, going 16-for-18.
- Marist's bench provided a good offensive boost, scoring 26 points.
- The Red Foxes did a much better job protecting the ball than the Rams. They turned the ball over 12 times compared to the Ram's 23.
NOTES
- This is Marist's first victory over the Rams in program history. Marist is now 1-3 vs Rhode Island.
- This game was also the first time all season Marist held a team to a single digit quarter. This is also the first time doing it twice, holding the Ram's to single digits in the second and third quarter.Â
