HAMILTON, New York - In its first contest of 2017, the Marist men's lacrosse team defeated Colgate 12-8.

Senior J.D. Recor netted five goals, including two on man up opportunities and junior Gannon Morrison notched seven points on four goals and three assists. Redshirt junior Brian Corrigan made stops with his stick down the stretch and ended up with 13 saves.

The Red Foxes never trailed in the game, building an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of goals from Morrison. Colgate responded with a pair of quick scores, but Marist hit the back of the net three times in four minutes to pull in front 6-2.

With the Morrison to Recor tandem clicking in the third quarter, Marist padded its lead down the stretch. The defense kept the Raiders on their heels by collecting 11 ground balls in the period. Senior Ralph Faiella, senior Frankie Brier and sophomore James Sarrocco each picked up two. After a penalty on its goalie, Colgate was a man down inside the final two minutes before Recor got his final goal on the empty net.

Junior Collin Orr won seven of the 10 faceoffs he took for Colgate and classmate Anthony Abbadessa had a hat trick.

Marist went 3-for-3 on the power play and owned a 9-5 edge in assists. Each side had 15 turnovers.

The Red Foxes will have a rematch with Air Force in Colorado at 2 p.m. EST Feb. 18. The two teams played a four-overtime marathon last season that was the longest game in Division I in 2016.
