POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Five goals in the fourth quarter, including three in a span of 44 seconds, propelled the Marist men's lacrosse team to a 6-5 comeback win over Siena on April 29 in the 2017 regular season finale.

The freshman connection between Joe Tierney and Michael Smith clinched the victory for Marist, as Smith hit the back of the net with six seconds left coming out of the Red Foxes' last timeout.

Marist's victory under the Tenney Stadium lights lifted it to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, which puts the Red Foxes at the no. 3 seed for the conference championships. Marist will host no. 2 Canisius at 7 p.m. May 5 in the semifinal round in Tenney Stadium. Tickets are available on the MAAC website through Ticketleap.

The Saints (3-11, 3-3 MAAC) were able to jump out to an early 2-0 lead on the Red Foxes' Senior Night, converting on their inside chances. Marist's offense turned up the heat in the second quarter, ripping 10 shots. Junior Kyle Quinn's unassisted snipe with 8:27 to play in second period brought it back to a one-goal game. Siena junior Chris Robertson, who would reach 100 career points on the night, retailiated with a goal to bring the Saints' halftime lead to 3-1. Both teams combined for 37 shots in the first half.

The third quarter opened with quality scoring chances from both teams, yet no points were added to the scoreboard until the Saints bounced in a shot with 10:35 to go in the period.

Marist chipped away at the deficit and charged back from a four-goal deficit in the final frame. Redshirt junior goalie Brian Corrigan made some clutch saves in the fourth quarter and galloped down the field in an effort to rally the offense early in the period. Sophomore Matthew Selts cut the Siena lead to 5-4 with 50 seconds left, then senior Ralph Faiella picked up the ground ball off the faceoff and fired a long shot that hit the back of the net.

The go-ahead goal came with just six seconds to play, as Tierney notched a point in his 14th straight game by setting up Michael Smith for his 13th goal of the season.

Corrigan made 11 saves for Marist, with four coming in the final quarter, and junior Matt Galioto picked up three ground balls and went 8-for-14 from the faceoff X. Marist outshot the Saints 38-31 and won the groundball matchup 22-18.

Robertson netted three goals on 11 shots while freshman goalie Gage Ponsetti made 16 saves.

The Red Foxes will host the Canisius Golden Griffins in the nightcap semifinal of the 2017 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 5. Top seeded Monmouth will battle no. 4 Detroit Mercy in the earlier contest at 4 p.m.

All MAAC Championship games will take place in Tenney Stadium with the final slated for 10 a.m. May 7. That contest will air on ESPNU.
