POUGHKEEPSIE N.Y. – The Marist Women's soccer team were on the losing end of a 2-1 result in a double-overtime thriller against the Delaware Blue Hens. The Red Foxes' record this season falls to 2-3 following the loss. The win was the Blue Hens' first of the season, improving their record to 1-2-1.
SUMMARY
The Blue Hens got off to an early lead thanks to a 13
th minute goal by junior midfielder Hannah Specht, but would be even on shots with Marist at the half. The Red Foxes and Blue Hens evenly traded blows, but neither team could put one away until a 85
th minute goal by
Keri Bradley, which sent it to overtime. Delaware would emerge victorious after a goal by Specht during the first possession of the second overtime period.
TURNING POINTS
- Delaware's Hannah Specht scored early from outside of the box, her first goal of the 2017 season.
- Marist senior goalkeeper Makala Foley saved two consecutive shots on goal in the 52nd minute. She had four saves on the night.
- After a free kick by sophomore Alexa Svensson, Marist sophomore Keri Bradley headed home the equalizing goal in the 85th minute, eventually sending the game into overtime.
- Delaware's Specht completes the brace with her second goal in the beginning of the second period of overtime, securing the sudden-victory for the Blue Hens.
