POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist volleyball team (3-1) rebounded from losing straight sets to top Binghamton (1-4) in its 2017 home opener in the Volley In The Valley Tournament on Sept. 1. Set scores in the tournament's second match were 25-21, 29-27, 18-25, 19-25, 15-12.
Turning Points:
Marist won points near the net early in the contest. Binghamton led by as many as three points in the opening set, but five straight points from Marist with the help of kills from sophomores
Nikki DeSerpa and
Megan Fergus gave them the advantage for good.

The Bearcats clawed back with a 10-1 run to begin the third frame. Marist cut into the deficit with aces off the hot hands of junior
Taylor van der Biezen and freshman Sara Austin, but did not get any closer than five points. A series of runs made the fourth set highly contested, but eight of the last nine points went Binghamton's way with five coming from their hitters.
Down 5-4 in the decisive set in McCann Arena, the Red Foxes ripped off four of the next five points to go ahead 8-6. Binghamton junior Gabby Alicea served from way behind the line and brought her team to within two at 12-10, but Marist would not relinquish its lead the rest of the night.
