MALIBU, California – Marist men's tennis senior
Javier Restrepo completed day one at the Oracle ITA Masters Thursday, competing in mixed doubles and in a singles match against one of the top ranked collegiate players in the country.
After starting the day in mixed doubles, paired with Quinnipiac's Jennifer Lu, Restrepo faced off against the #2 seed from USC, Brandon Holt. USC is perennially one of the top ranked tennis programs in the country.
"In mixed doubles, it was the first time we had ever played together so it's always a little tough getting the chemistry but we had a great time and represented our schools well I think," said Restrepo. "In my singles match, I played a great second set and I feel like I can definitely hang with these guys. All things considered, I gave a great performance and I'm really pumped for the season. If I can take this and use it to positively motivate the guys, I feel like it will help us have a great year."
Restrepo dropped the first set 6-2 but would battle back in the second set causing the match to be decided in a tiebreak. Retrepo eventually fell 7-6 (7-4) in the second but not before giving Holt all he could handle.
"Javi represented Marist at this tournament in an extremely professional manner," head coach
Tim Smith said. "His demeanor on the court and his work ethic was something I was very proud of."
Restrepo will take part in another match during day two of the Oracle ITA Masters on Friday. Check back on GoRedFoxes.com for updates on his progress.
