Women's Soccer Drops MAAC Match To Manhattan

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's soccer team were defeated by Manhattan by a score of 4-2 in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference home game Saturday night. The Red Foxes fall to 2-2-1 in the MAAC, 5-6-2 overall, while Manhattan earns their third consecutive in-conference victory, improving to 5-5-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference.

SUMMARY
The story of this game was counter attacking. All of Manhattan's goals came via counter attacking play. Erica Modena and Arianna Montefusco spearheaded this attacking play, both scoring and assisting a goal apiece. Montefusco's assist came in the 28th minute on a chipped goal by Gemma Perez, while Modena's goal and assist both came on breakaways. Marist dominated possession for most of the game, and led Manhattan in the shot column, but the Jaspers capitalized on what chances they got with well executed counters and shots on target.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"Disappointing week for us all the way around, this game kind of capped that. It's not all bad, we had some nice individual performances tonight but individuals don't win games, teams win games and we were just not there tonight. We've had two games where we haven't put in a good team performance, we had some technical elements of our game that were off tonight and we've got to figure it out. It's coming down to it now where we need the points and throwing away six points this week was not good." - Head coach Gene Smith
