POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – In a battle for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference lead, the Marist women's soccer team were unable to overcome an early first half goal, falling to the Monmouth Hawks 1-0 at Tenney Stadium. With the loss, the Red Foxes move to 6-6-1 and and 4-2-0 in conference play. Monmouth now stands at 11-3-1 overall and 6-1 in MAAC play.
- The Hawks' Jessica Johnson set the tone for the first half, scoring early in the 13th minute to give Monmouth the lead. Her free kick from the left corner of the box found the upper portion of net to put the Hawks ahead.
- Dropping back on defense, the Red Foxes attempted to counterattack the Hawks but were unable to capitalize on any of their chances.
- Marist's defense held strong in the second half, allowing only five shots on goal out of 20 total chances.
- Goalkeeper Abby Renaud made four saves, as the defenders accomplished a high number of blocks inside the box.
- Five different Red Foxes tallied a shot each.
- The teams were even with four corner kicks each.
- Wednesday's game was just the third time the Red Foxes had been shutout and first time since September 14th against Fordham.
Women's soccer will travel to face Manhattan on Saturday, October 13. Kickoff is set for noon.
