PRINCETON, New Jersey & NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – The Marist men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's 2018 Northeast Regionals Friday afternoon.
Lars Schouten represented the men at the regional hosted by Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey and
Julia Gabay and
Sam Galu represented the women in New Haven, Connecticut.
- Lars Schouten took on Cornell's Joseph McCallister in the first round of competition in the main draw.
- McAllister would prevail over Schouten in the first set 6-0 and then close out the match winning 6-3 in the second set.
- Julia Gabay and Sam Galu teamed up to take on St. John's University's Oceane Garibal and Olaya Inclan Solis.
- After breaking St. John's serve twice in the first four games to keep the match at 2-2, St. John's rattled off 6 straight wins to take an 8-2 victory.
- Gabay would continue on in singles play and take on Lilly Burchell from Boston University.
- Burchell would take the first set 6-4 but Gabay bounced back with a 6-4 win of her own in the second set.
- Gabay battled but was unable to come away with the three-set win, falling 6-4 in the decisive set.
The Marist women will close out its fall season with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference dual-match against Monmouth. The men will continue on with its fall schedule at the Army Fall Classic from Oct. 26-28.
