Volleyball Sweeps Siena at Home

Marist Played Well from Start to Finish

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist came into its match with Siena and never let up, picking up a 3-0 win. The Red Foxes are now 11-9 overall and 8-2 in Metro Athletic Atlantic Conference, good for second in the conference
 
SUMMARY
Marist dominated the first set, leading 12-1 early on. The Red Foxes defense was dominate, holding Siena to only three sets. The team also served well, finishing the set with five service aces. Siena put up a fight near the end of the set but it was too little, too late and Marist took the set 25-10.
 
The Saints offense started rolling in the second set, with Siena landing five kills to take an 8-5 lead. Marist used a 6-1 run to recapture the lead, highlighted by back to back service aces from Ashley Cruise.
The Red Foxes maintained their cushion, closing out the set 25-20 off a kill by Madelyn Waumans.
 
The Red Foxes started set three with an 11-3 run, forcing Siena to burn a timeout. Siena started to chip away at the lead, tying it up at 21-21. But a service error from the Saints gave the ball back to Marist and kills from Chidera Udeh and Sarah Austin gave the Red Foxes the 25-21 set victory.
 
 
NOTES
  • Sarah Austin led both teams with 11 kills.
  • Marist served the ball excellently, finishing the match with 12 aces from eight different players. Taylor van der Biezen had the most with three.
  • Cruise had her first career service ace, finishing the match with two.
  • The Red Foxes held the Saints to a .049 hitting percentage
 
UP NEXT
Marist takes its annual trip to Buffalo next weekend. The Red Foxes will face Canisius Saturday October 20 at 1 pm.
