POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men's and women's swimming and diving will take a short trip to the Bronx to compete against Fordham.
Â
The men's team pick up a win against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Canisius 178-116. The team saw great performances from veterans such as 50- and 100-yard freestyle winning senior
Daniel Knoll and newcomers like sophomore
Pavel Makarchuk and freshman
Ryan Kaplan.
Â
The women's team was edged by Canisius 160-140. Many of the young swimmers had strong performances for their first meet of the season including freshman
Emma Butzler who placed first in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly.
Â
Sophomore
Esabelle Gervasio and Junior
Raislan Aiken were named MAAC Divers of the week after picking up wins on both the 1- and 3-meter dives.
Â
This is the first meet of the season for the Rams. Last season, the women finished fourth in the A10 while the men finished sixth. In the meet between the two schools last year, the Marist men picked up a win 137-100 while the women fell 162-76.
Â
The upcoming non-conference will differ from regular meets as it will feature 13 events as opposed to the regular 16 events at a meet. Both teams will not compete in the 100-yard backstroke, breaststroke or butterfly.
Â
Marist will host men's defending MAAC champion Rider on Saturday October 27 at 5 p.m.
