POUGHKEEPSIE, New York- Marist Volleyball dropped a tough 3-1 match to Rider at home on Saturday afternoon.
Summary- In the first set, Marist kept it close with a 10-7 lead to start. After a 17-12 Marist lead, Rider made a run and made it 21-18 late in the set. The Broncos played well in front of the net, tallying six blocks in the first set. They would walk away from the first set with a 25-20 win.
The two teams battled back in forth in set two with Marist taking a 15-13 lead into the media timeout. A pair of kills from
Sarah Austin gave Marist a little bit of momentum as the Red Foxes took a 19-14 timeout. The Broncos would never catch up and a kill from
Megan Fergus ended the set 25-21.
Rider built up a four point lead early on at 13-9.
Lauren Waide kept the set close for the Red Foxes, landing a couple of kills and a block to keep the set within one-point. But a couple of late errors from Marist plagued the Red Foxes and they fell 25-21.
The Broncos took a 13-8 lead in the middle of the set. Rider expanded its lead to 21-14, and would hold on to win the set and take the match win.
Notes
- Meagan Fergus paced the Red Fox attack, finishing the match with 16 kills.
- Morgan Owens provided a good defensive effort, finishing with 17 digs.
- Marist edged Rider in kills (56-45) and digs (68-57).
- The Red Foxes finished the match with 33 attack errors.
