NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, New York – The Marist women's soccer team dropped its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Wednesday afternoon 3-1 to the Niagara Purple Eagles. With the loss, the Red Foxes move to 5-5-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference. Niagara improves to 7-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in MAAC play.
- Niagara struck first early in the game when Kelsey Araujo found net in the 15th minute. Araujo found space down the wing, cut towards net, and flicked one over the Marist keeper.
- Marist countered and tied it up before the half. Bianca Furci pounced on the ball after a scramble in front of net, tapping it home to knot the score at 1-1.
- In the 68th minute, Niagara was awarded a penalty kick after another run down the side beat the Red Foxes' defense. Kelsey Araujo scored her second of the game, knocking the ball into the lower right corner of goal.
- With Marist trying to equalize, Niagara sealed the deal in the 80th minute after a kick from Annie Ibey outside the box found the top left corner of goal, putting Niagara ahead 3-1.
- Niagara held the advantage in shots 19-10 and shots on goal 8-6.
- The Purple Eagles' first-half goal was the first Marist relinquished in over 240 minutes of game play.
- Anna Davies led the Red Foxes in shots with three. Keri Bradley and Jillian Colucci each had two.
The Red Foxes will return to Tenney Stadium for a conference match against the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Saturday, October 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 P.M. The Red Foxes will also celebrate Senior Day and fans and family are advised to arrive early for the festivities.
