BUENA VISTA, Florida – Marist volleyball ended its season with a 3-1 loss to Saint Peter's in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament.
The two teams went back in forth early until Saint Peter's used a 6-0 run to take a 10-6 lead and force a Marist time. Marist got within two but a couple of errors made by the Red Foxes gave the Peacocks a 16-9 lead. Saint Peter's reached set point at 24-19 and the Red Foxes rattled off four points to come within one but a block from Saint Peter's closed the door on the comeback.
Marist and Saint Peter's exchanged leads throughout the set. The Red Foxes took a timeout with a 19-18 lead and tallied five consecutive points to reach set point. A kill from Saint Peter's gave the Peacocks the opportunity to comeback but Saint Peter's Karen Ramiu sailed the ball into the net on the ensuing serve.
Sarah Austin provided an offensive spark with five kills in the set.
Set three was another close set with no team leading by more than three. A kill from
Nikki DeSerpa followed by a Saint Peter's attack error tied it up 23 all. But after a Saint Peter's time out, the Peacocks landed a pair of kills to take the set.
DeSerpa landed three kills to spark a 5-0 run and take a 12-9 lead. But the peacocks would later respond with three kills in a row to tie it up at 18 all. The teams would exchange blows until a Peacock's block got them to set point at 24-23. Marist took a time out but were unable to get something going and Saint Peter's walked away with the win.
