Volleyball Takes Down Quinnipiac

Van der Biezen Reaches Marist Top Ten Service Aces

HAMDEN, Connecticut - Volleyball defeated Quinnipiac 3-1 on Saturday afternoon for their second straight victory. With the win, Marist moves to 10-5 in the MAAC and 13-12 overall.
 
SUMMARY
  • The Red Foxes took set one 25-23. Although the Bobcats at one point led 23-22, Marist took the final three points to secure the 1-0 set lead. Quinnipiac led in kills 12-9, but Marist held the advantage in blocks 2-1 and service aces 3-2.
  • Quinnipiac won the second set 25-18 to tie up the set count. The teams were even with 12 kills each, but Marist made seven attack errors and allowed five service aces to drop the set.
  • Marist took the third set 25-16 to take an advantage in the set count. The Red Foxes had 16 kills to the Bobcats' 11, recording a .300 hitting percentage, meaning 30% of all attacks led to kills.
  • In the fourth set, the Red Foxes came out on top 25-23 to win the match. Quinnipiac battled hard to try to tie up the set count, but could not overcome a unified Marist team.
NOTES
  • Taylor van der Biezen recorded two service aces to reach Top Ten All-Time in the Marist record books.
  • Morgan Owens made 27 digs to reach a new career high and bolster the Red fox defense.
  • Megan Fergus led the team with 13 kills, while Sarah Austin and Madelyn Waumans were right behind her with 12 and 11 apiece.
  • Marist remained tied for third with Rider and Fairfield in the MAAC standings with a 10-5 record.

Volleyball will stay in Connecticut to play Fairfield tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
