POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist women's basketball put on their best offensive showing since 2014 to break an eleven game winning-streak by Northeastern and earn their eighth win of the season.
- The Huskies got off to a hot start, leading by 10 after the first quarter.
- Sarah Barcello provided a spark off the bench, scoring on four baskets for a new career-high of 11 points midway through the second quarter.
- Barcello, Rebekah Hand and Alana Gilmer each reached double-digit scoring by halftime to take back the lead 44-43 from Northeastern.
- Gilmer and Hand got even hotter in the third quarter, combining with a team defensive effort to out-score Northeastern by 20 points over the second and third periods.
- Northeastern forced some turnovers and hit consecutive baskets to cut the Marist lead down to three early in the fourth.
- Gilmer took over the game from that point on, reaching a new career-high of 30 points to solidify the Red Fox lead heading down the stretch.
- Forcing the Huskies to immediately foul in the final possessions, Marist maintained their advantage through the end of the game and came out on top, 90-84.
- Alana Gilmer's 30 points were a new career-high, with 11 field goals-made matching her career-high.
- Rebekah Hand's 28 points matched her season-high, along with her eight rebounds.
- Sarah Barcello reached a new career high in points (11), field goals made (4), field goals attempted (11), three-point field goals made (3), three point field goals attempted (7), rebounds (6), steals (2) and minutes (28).
- 90 points is the most the Red Foxes have scored since their 100-point victory over Quinnipiac on Feb. 14, 2014.
- Marist is now 4-4 with Northeastern all-time, after winning another high-scoring game exactly five years ago, 103-66.
- Rebekah Hand has scored at least ten points in 20 consecutive games, with Gilmer reaching double-digits in nine-of-eleven contests this season.
"This was a tremendous mid-major basketball game. Both teams shot the lights out and played really well offensively. Our defense wasn't that poor, but their offense was really that good. Jess Genco is a special player. Their kids played well, but Rebekah and Alana more than answered, and Sarah came up big today too to help us get the win," said Marist head coach
Brian Giorgis.
The Red Foxes will have eleven days off before hosting the University of Massachusetts in the last game of the calendar year, and final non-conference game. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29.
