Men’s Basketball Opens Home Stand With Canisius

Red Foxes Meet Golden Griffins For First Time This Season Friday At 7

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – After playing four of its last five games away from home, the Marist men's basketball plays the first of back-to-back games at McCann Arena Friday night. The Red Foxes (5-17 overall, 3-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) host Canisius (13-9, 7-2) at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out
Ryan Funk drained a three-pointer with 0.8 seconds remaining to lift Marist to a 62-59 triumph at Manhattan on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Funk led the Red Foxes with 17 points and shot 5-for-9 from three-point range. David Knudsen and Brian Parker contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively. Tobias Sjoberg grabbed 11 rebounds for his third double-digit rebounding game of the season. Marist trailed by as much as nine in the first half and eight in the second half.
 
The Opponent
This is Canisius' first game since Saturday, Jan. 27, when the Golden Griffins fell to Niagara by a score of 105-89. Prior to that, Canisius had won four straight. Jermaine Crumpton leads Canisius with 16.6 points per game, followed by Isaiah Reese at 16.4 and Takal Molson at 12.8. This trio has combined for five MAAC weekly awards this season. Head coach Reggie Witherspoon is in his second season leading the Golden Griffins.

  • Marist has had a second-half lead in all 10 of its MAAC games. The only other team in the MAAC to lead in the second half in all of its conference games this season is Iona.
  • Brian Parker shot .571 (12-for-21) from three-point range in his eight games in January. He has 1,226 career points, which ranks 15th all-time in program history. Devin Price (1,244 points) is in 14th place.
