Second-Half Comeback Lifts Rider Over Marist

Funk Scores 18, Sjoberg Contributes Double-Double

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist Men's basketball team lost 89-79 to Rider in a Metro Atlantic Conference game on Saturday night at the McCann Center.
 
SUMMARY
  • Marist came out firing from behind the arc, hitting four three-point shots in the first five minutes of play, jumping to an early 12-6 lead.
  • The Foxes went into a 13-2 run after an alley-oop pass from junior guard Brian Parker to junior forward Isaiah Lamb. The run propelled Marist to a 36-21 lead with three minutes remaining in the half.
  • The Red Foxes got 30 of their 39 first-half points on the three-point shot, hitting 10-of-20. They would go into half with a 39-27 lead over Rider.
  • Marist jumped out the gates firing on all cylinders to start the second half. A quick 6-0 run gave the Foxes a 21-point lead over Rider 50-29.
  • The Red Foxes and Broncs would go back and forth over the next 10 minutes of play as the Foxes held onto their 14 point lead with 7 minutes left in the game.
  • The Rider offense would get a jump start off a Jordan Allen three with just over seven minutes to play, and proceed to go on to a 28-6 run to finish out the game. The Broncs took the lead for good on a three-point play from Dimencio Vaughn with 2:04 to play.

  • Rider shot 34 percent from the field in the first half.
  • The Red Foxes hit 10-for-20 (.500) from behind the arc in the first half. They shot 1-for-9 (.111) in the second half and finished the game 11-for-29 (.379).
  • After shooting one free throw in the first, Marist went on to shoot 26 free throws in the second making 17 of them.
  • The Red Foxes turned the ball over just eight times in the first half. They would go on to turn the ball over 18 times in the second half and finish the game with 26 turnovers.
  • Rider had four players score in double digits. The Red Foxes also had four players score in double digits.
  • Sophomore center Tobias Sjoberg had a double-double for the Foxes with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Junior forward Ryan Funk led Marist in scoring with 18 points.
  • Rider's Vaughn led all scorers with 28 points to go along with 12 rebounds.
 
NOTES
  • Parker tied his career high in assists with nine.
  • Sjoberg's double-double was the third of his career and third of the season.
  • Sjoberg also tied his career-high in rebounds and was one point shy of his career-high.
  • Senior center Connor McClenaghan tied his career-high in points (nine).
  • Marist had four-double-digit scorers for the second straight game.
  • Rider has now won eight straight games overall and 18 of its last 21 games against Marist.
