Marist Softball Tops Rhode Island

Sinskul Homers In 5-3 Triumph

MADEIRA BEACH, Florida – The Marist softball team won its first game of the 2018 season on Saturday night, as the Red Foxes defeated Rhode Island 5-3 at the Madeira Beach Invitational.
 
Summary
  • Rhode Island scored in the bottom of the first on a two-out RBI double by Erica Robles.
  • Marist took the lead in the top of the second with a pair of runs. Senior Gabrielle Kelliher scored on a wild pitch, and freshman Hunter Hand came home on an error. However, the Rams tied the game in the bottom of the third on another RBI double by Robles.
  • Sophomore Jade Sinskul's first career home run in the fourth inning gave the Red Foxes a lead they would not relinquish.
  • The Red Foxes tacked on two more runs in the sixth when senior Brittany Colombo's RBI double brought home senior Kourtney Paul, and freshman Lauren Beal scored on an error.
  • Rhode Island closed out the scoring on a seventh-inning solo homer by Kylie Shivery.
