Late Surge Lifts Saint Peter’s Over Marist

Parker Sets Career High With Nine Assists

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – The Marist men's basketball team suffered a 70-66 loss at Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Thursday night at the Yanitelli Center.

  • Marist jumped out to a 7-0 lead and forced a Saint Peter's timeout at the 16:38 mark.
  • Saint Peter's took a 12-11 lead on a three by Davauhnte Turner at the 11:44 mark, but a three by Marist freshman forward Lasse Gummerus put the Red Foxes back in the lead 58 seconds later. Marist held the lead the rest of the first half.

  • A three by junior forward Isaiah Lamb at the 10:05 mark started Marist on a 12-0 run, as the Red Foxes held the Peacocks scoreless for 4:04. The run lifted Marist to its largest lead of the game at 56-45 with 7:28 to go.
  • With 2:25 to play, junior guard Brian Parker hit a pair of free throws to put Marist up 66-63. The Red Foxes did not score the rest of the way.
  • With just under one minute to play, a three-pointer by Samuel Idowu put the Peacocks up 68-66. Turner's layup with 11 seconds remaining sealed it for Saint Peter's.

  • Parker led a balanced scoring effort with 12 points. He added nine assists and four rebounds. He did not officially attempt a field goal until the 9:04 mark of the second half, and finished 2-for-2 from the field and 8-for-9 from the free-throw line.
  • Four Red Foxes scored in double digits. Lamb and junior guard David Knudsen added 11 apiece, and sophomore center Tobias Sjoberg finished with 10.
  • Marist shot 11-for-28 (.393) from three-point range. The Red Foxes were 8-for-16 (.500) in the first half and 3-for-12 (.250) in the second half.
  • Marist had 16 assists on 19 field goals.
  • Turner led all scorers with 30.
  • Saint Peter's shot 9-for-17 (.529) from three-point range, including 5-for-8 (.625) in the second half.
