Men's Lacrosse Face Colgate in Home Opener

The Red Foxes Play the Raiders for the Second Year in a Row

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's lacrosse team will host Colgate for its first home matchup of the 2018 season on Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
LAST OUTING
The Red Foxes suffered a close loss at Bucknell last weekend, 11-9. Three players led the team with two goals each: freshman Jason Intermesoli, sophomore Jon Constant, and senior Mitchell Sandera. Jason Intermesoli scored his first career goal on an extra man opportunity to tie the game up. Even goalie Brian Corrigan got in on the action and scored. Sophomore Joe Tierney led with three assists.
 
SCOUTING COLGATE
This will be the Raiders first game of the 2018 season. Last year, they finished with a 5-9 overall record and a 3-5 record in Patriot League play. Colgate welcomes back six starters, including its five top scorers. Among them is Patriot League Rookie of the Year Griffin Brown. He was the goal-scoring leader with 23 and finished third on the team with 29 points. 
 
LAST MATCHUP AGAINST COLGATE
Marist defeated Colgate 12-8 on Saturday, February 11th at Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium. J.D. Recor led the team with five goals, followed by Gannon Morrison with four. Morrison also led the team with three assists. James Sarrocco and Jimmy Murphy tied for the team lead with four ground balls.
 
WEEKLY AWARDS
The Red Foxes swept the MAAC weekly awards for the first week of season play. Brian Corrigan was named Defensive Player of the Week after racking up 10 saves and a save percentage of .476. He also scored his first career goal on a long shot across the field. Jason Intermesoli was named both Rookie and Offensive Player of the Week. The freshman finished the game with three points from two goals and one assist, while adding one ground ball and one caused turnover.

LOOKING AHEAD
Marist will travel to College Park, MD to play the 2017 NCAA Champion University of Maryland on Tuesday, February 13th. Face-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
