Marist Toppled By UConn, Texas A&M At Reveille Classic

Oberdorf Extends Hitting Streak To 15

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Marist softball team dropped two games on Friday in its first day of the Reveille Classic. The Red Foxes fell to UConn, 6-2, and #7/#9 Texas A&M, 7-0.

Summary
  • After a scoreless first three innings, the Red Foxes scored the game's first run in the top of the fourth. Red-shirt sophomore Claire Oberdorf singled with one out, and sophomore Ali Milam followed with an RBI double.
  • Marist added a run on the fifth on a one-out double by freshman Caroline Baratta, which brought home junior Casey Page.
  • UConn took the lead with a three-run fifth inning.  A two-out, two-run homer by Olivia Sappington gave the Huskies the lead for good.
  • A solo homer by Samantha Barnett and a two-run homer by Kiwi McDaniel in the sixth closed out the scoring.
 
Key Stats
  • Both teams had seven hits.
  • Milam reached safely in all three of her plate appearances, with a single, double, and walk.
  • Baratta also had two hits.
  • Junior Kallen Leeseberg (1-5) took the loss. She struck out four in 5.1 innings.
  • Marybeth Olson (5-5) went 6.1 innings and earned the victory for UConn. Jill Stockley got the final two outs for her first save of the season.

  • A two-out double by Ashley Waters brought home Tori Vidales to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead in the first.
  • Riley Sartain's two-out, two-run homer in the third put Texas A&M up 3-0.
  • Kylie George scored on an error in the fourth inning to give the Aggies a 4-0 lead.
  • Sarah Hudek, Kristen Cuyos, and Samantha Show hit solo home runs in the fifth to close out the scoring.

  • Oberdorf, Baratta, and Page had singles for the Red Foxes. Oberdorf's fourth-inning base hit extended her hitting streak to 15 games.
  • Junior Brooke Peterson (2-2) took the loss. Peterson went the first 4.2 innings, and junior Megan Beiermeister tossed the final 1.1.
  • Lexi Smith (5-0) went the first five innings for the Aggies and struck out 10. Kayla Poynter struck out four in the final two innings.

Marist is now 8-12 on the season.
