RALEIGH, North Carolina – The Marist softball team split day one of the RDU/RTP challenge. They fell to Kennesaw State in game one, but defeated NC State in game two.

SUMMARY OF KENNESAW STATE
The Red Foxes fell 9-6. Junior Megan Beiermeister started and went four innings. She allowed eights hits, seven runs (six earned), and two walks, while striking out two. Freshman Nicole Teague pitched the last two innings and surrendered three hits, two runs, and three walks. On the offensive side, Marist only had five hits, but took advantage of the four errors made by Kennesaw State and worked four walks to put up six runs. Freshman Caroline Baratta, senior Miranda Perez, sophomore Ali Milam, senior Brittany Colombo, and junior Casey Page had the five Red Fox hits. Milam drove in three runs, while Perez scored two.

SUMMARY OF NC STATE
Marist defeated NC State 2-1. Junior hurler Kallen Leeseberg dominated the Wolfpack. She threw a complete game while only allowing one run, five hits, and she struck out 11. The big moment came in the 5th inning when she got out of a bases loaded jam with a huge strikeout. The offense scored both of the Red Fox runs in the third inning. Baratta smacked a single to score senior Kourtney Paul, then came around to score on a fielding error off the bat of Perez.

RECORDS
Marist is now 9-16 overall. Kennesaw State is now 20-10, and 2-1 in conference. NC State is now 16-12 overall, and 3-5 in conference.
