SAN LUIS OBISPO, California – The Marist softball team defeated Santa Clara 7-0 and fell to Cal Poly 2-1 on Friday to start play at the Shareslo Mustang Classic.

SUMMARY OF SANTA CLARA
Marist played well all-around to earn a 7-0 victory. Junior
Megan Beiermeister dominated the Bronco offense to the tune of a complete game, three-hit shutout. She struck out nine batters, and threw 71 of her 122 pitches for strikes. The offense racked up six hits and two walks to put up seven runs. Red-shirt sophomore
Claire Oberdorf, sophomore
Ali Milam, and senior
Brittany Colombo each scored two runs. Oberdorf and freshman
Lauren Beal each smacked two hits. Beal and sophomore
Jade Sinskul each drove in two runs.

SUMMARY OF CAL POLY
The Red Foxes fell in a close game, 2-1. Junior
Kallen Leeseberg pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out two. On the offensive side, Milam had a team-high two hits, Oberdorf, Beal, and freshman
Caroline Baratta each added one. Marist left seven runners on base in the loss.

Marist is now 5-7 overall. Santa Clara is 2-15. Cal Poly is 11-9.

Marist will be back in action on Saturday, March 10th with two games. They will face Santa Clara at noon and Cal Poly at 2:30. All games will be played one hour earlier than originally scheduled to due impending inclement weather.Â
