FAIRFIELD, Connecticut – The Marist softball team earned a sweep at Fairfield in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday. The Red Foxes erupted for a 16-4 victory in game one, and earned a 6-2 triumph in the second game.
Game One: Marist 16, Fairfield 4
Summary
- Marist scored four runs in the top of the second. An infield force out off the bat of junior Casey Page scored senior Kourtney Paul. Freshman Caroline Baratta followed with a two-run triple, and then came home on a wild pitch.
- Fairfield tied the game with a four-run third, which came on four hits. Alisha Marshall delivered a two-run single in the rally.
- The Red Foxes loaded the bases with none out in the fourth. Two batters later, red-shirt sophomore Claire Oberdorf belted a grand slam over the wall in left-center field. Sophomore Ali Milam then went back-to-back with a home run over the wall in right-center field. Marist added another run in the fourth on an RBI single by senior Brittany Colombo, and led 10-4 after three-and-a-half.
- Leading off the fifth, Baratta's homer to left field gave Marist an 11-4 advantage.
- The Red Foxes added five runs in the seventh. Freshman Olivia Knopf, junior Madison Lee, and sophomore Jade Sinskul had RBIs, and Colombo closed out the scoring with a two-run homer.

- Junior Megan Beiermeister (9-5) tossed a complete game, scattering seven hits.
- The Red Foxes had 12 hits. Colombo led the way with three, followed by Baratta, Milam, and Paul with two apiece.
- Colombo was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
- Baratta was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, three runs scored, two walks, a triple, and a home run.
- Fairfield starter Destinee Pallotto (9-8), who went the first 3.1 innings, took the loss.
Game Two: Marist 6, Fairfield 2
Summary
- Marist scored twice in the top of the first. Junior Brandi Coon drew a bases-loaded walk, which forced home senior Miranda Perez. Paul followed with a sacrifice fly, which plated Oberdorf.
- In the fourth, an error on a sacrifice bunt by Coon brought home Oberdorf. Paul followed with an RBI single, as she drove in Coon from second.
- Junior Kallen Leeseberg retired the first 10 Stags she faced. In the fourth, Amanda Ulzheimer reached on a one-out infield single, and Courtney Hankins followed with a two-run homer to cut Marist's lead to 4-2.
- In the fifth, Paul's RBI single scored Oberdorf. Sophomore Jade Sinskul followed with a squeeze bunt, which brought home Coon.
- Fairfield had two on with two out in the sixth, but freshman Nicole Teague induced a comebacker to squelch the Stags' rally.
Key Stats
- Paul went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a stolen base.
- Oberdorf went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
- Leeseberg (4-7) allowed just two hits in 5.2 innings and struck out four. Teague got the final four outs and did not allow a run as she earned her second save.
- Lauryn Rhinehart (3-5), who went the first 4.1 innings, took the loss for Fairfield.

- The grand slam was the first of Oberdorf's career.
- Marist's 16 runs scored in game one were its most since having 22 in the second game of a doubleheader against Saint Peter's on April 16, 2016.
- Marist swept Fairfield in the regular season for the first time since 2013.
