Men's Lacrosse Drops Close Game to Monmouth

The Hawks Took the Lead in the Third Quarter and Didn't Look Back

WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey – Marist men's lacrosse dropped a close Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game against Monmouth 9-7 Saturday afternoon.

SUMMARY
The two teams went back in forth throughout the first half. Monmouth's Bryce Wasserman scored within the first minute to take the early lead. Goals from Jake Weinman, Gannon Morrison and Chris Schlappich gave Marist a 3-2 lead. After the Hawks scored quickly to start the second quarter, Morrison and Joe Tierney scored to give Marist its largest lead of the day. Monmouth would tie it up again, but Morrison added his third goal of the day to take a 6-5 lead into the half.

The second half opened up as a defensive stalemate between the two teams, with neither team able to score within the first thirteen minutes. Marist was able to play great man-down defense with 7:01 left in the third, stopping several shots from finding the back of the net. Monmouth broke the ice, scoring two goals to take a 7-6 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Hawks went up 8-6 with 7:38 left in the game for their biggest lead of the game. Weinman scored on a great feed from Morrison to come within one goal with 5:48 left. Marist was not able to get enough going on offense to tie it up and the Hawks scored on a man up opportunity to seal the win.
