POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's tennis team kept the weekend wins coming with a 7-0 blanking of Niagara Saturday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. The Red Foxes win improves them to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in conference. The loss for Niagara moves them to 4-17 overall and 1-4 in league play.
Before the match, the program honored its five seniors,
Rudolf Kurz,
Javier Restrepo,
Justin Chanthalangsy,
Gianlucca Massa, and
Jan Dernic for their hard work and dedication to the team.
"I couldn't be more pleased with our overall doubles play," said head coach
Tim Smith. "I really think the guys are clicking and we've got both the right combination and order we should play our doubles in for the rest of the year."
Again the Red Foxes got off on the right foot, winning at all three doubles positions to earn the doubles point. The teams of
Paulo Siracusa and
Jan Dernic,
Rudolf Kurz and
Gianlucca Massa, and
Javier Restrepo and
Christopher Gladden all played up to form and controlled the doubles matches.
"One and two doubles in particular did a terrific job with spot serving and driving the ball in most situations," Smith said. "Once again this helped us with momentum going into singles and I strongly felt that all six of the guys played well and we're starting to peak at the right time if we can just get some more good weather to continue to play outside."
In Singles play the Red Foxes didn't drop a set, winning in straight sets across the board. Restrepo, Kurz, Massa, Schouten, Gladden, and Darrington all picked up wins for the Red Foxes to help the team cruise to a 7-0 victory.
