POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team split a doubleheader against Army West Point on Thursday, April 5. The Red Foxes defeated Army 2-1 on a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one but lost 5-0 in game two.

Summary

• Maddie Kim drove in the lone run of the game for the Black Knights with an RBI groundout in the top of the second inning.
• The Red Foxes had runners on second and third with just one out in the bottom of the fourth, but Renee Poirier worked out of the jam unscathed.
• After a one-out double by senior Kourtney Paul in the bottom of the seventh inning, Paul came in to score on a throwing error from Poirier, tying the game at one.

• The Black Knights loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the third inning and Lacey Swafford drew a walk to push their lead to 2-0.
• The Red Foxes loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning but were unable to push anything across as Courtney Springman worked out of trouble.
• Army then loaded the bases in the following inning but was able to capitalize as Katie Ontiveros drove in a run on an infield error.
• The Black Knights tacked on two runs in the later innings as two runners came in to score on wild pitches, extending their lead to 5-0.
• The Red Foxes threatened again in the bottom of the sixth, but again failed to convert with runners in scoring position, leaving runners on second and third. Marist then went quiet in the seventh inning.
