Marist Tops Siena In MAAC Opening Round

Red Foxes Score Four In Sixth, Prevail 7-2

WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey – The sixth-seeded Marist softball team defeated third-seeded Siena by a score of 7-2 in the opening round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Wednesday at Monmouth.
 
Summary
  • Marist left a runner on third base in the first inning, and left the bases loaded in the second.
  • Siena strung together three straight hits with two outs in the bottom of the second. The last, a two-run double by Amanda Dodson, got the Saints on the board first.
  • In the third, a sacrifice fly by Brandi Coon scored Brittany Colombo with the Red Foxes' first run.
  • Marist had runners at the corners in the fourth with one out, but did not score.
  • In the fifth, Kourtney Paul's two-out single brought home Ali Milam, which tied the game at two apiece.

Coon followed with a single, which plated pinch-runner Hunter Hand. Claire Oberdorf then followed with a two-run triple to right field, as Coon and Milam scored.
  • The Red Foxes added an insurance run in the seventh when Casey Page chopped a single through the left side, which brought home pinch-runner Madison Lee.
  • Colombo closed the game with a 5-3 double play.

  • Marist outhit Siena, 14-8. Eight Red Foxes had hits, led by Page with three, followed by Caroline Baratta, Lauren Beal, Milam, and Perez.
  • Coon and Oberdorf each drove home a pair of runs. Milam led the way with two runs scored.

  • Megan Beiermeister (13-9) pitched a complete game. She threw just 77 pitches, 51 of which went for strikes.
