Men's Soccer Drops Tight Battle at Albany

Bounthong Notches a Goal and Assist

ALBANY, New York – The Marist men's soccer team battled hard but eventually fell at Albany, 3-4. With the loss, the Red Foxes begin the season 0-1-0 and the Great Danes move to 1-0-0.

SUMMARY

Marist began the game with an offensive barrage that silenced the crowd at Casey Stadium. Samad Bounthong notched the first goal of the season within five minutes off an assist from Allen Gavilanes, firing diagonally from the left corner of the box into the top right corner of the net. Minutes later, Skylar Conway passed to Juan Parada who scored Marist's second point from deep, building a lead of 2-0 in just ten minutes of play time.

Albany fought back, steadily earning goals from Kaio DaSilva and Carlos Clark to tie the game. Nico Solabarrieta went on to notch back-to-back scores for the Great Danes, the latter coming off of a penalty kick.

Albany held a 4-2 lead until the 72nd minute, when a precise corner kick from Bounthong led to a header by Christian Curti that found the back of the net. Curti's first career goal brought Marist within one and fueled an aggressive effort in the last 18 minutes, but the Red Foxes were unable to tally any more points. Despite some great looks at the end, the scoring battle ended in Albany's favor.
