STOCKTON, California – In the second game of their west coast road trip, the Red Foxes defeated No. 17 Pacific to earn their first win of the season. Marcus Ginman scored off an assist from Allen Gavilanes to record his first goal of his college career. Ryan Sinnott claimed the win in goal with his first start of the season.
Nationally ranked Pacific began the first half with ferocity, tallying six shots to Marist's four. But it was Ginman that would find the net first, beating the goalie up close after a cross from Gavilanes. Sinnott made three saves in the first half, holding the Tigers at bay to maintain the lead.
The Red Foxes stayed disciplined in the second half, only allowing Pacific to take two shots with neither of them on goal. Marist found six opportunities, with a pair of very close attempts around the 73 minute mark. The Tigers were shut out, and men's soccer added a ranked win to their resume before heading back to Poughkeepsie.
"That's a good team. We challenged the guys before the game to come together as a team, be responsible for their positions and give a mature effort" remarked Coach Matt Viggiano following the victory. "We committed to playing a smart soccer game. We did the little things right and were rewarded for it. When we do the little things right, we can play with a lot of teams out there."
-Marist led in shots 10 to 8, and shots on goal 5 to 3.
-Marcus Ginman came off the bench to score his first career goal, while Ryan Sinnott earned Marist's first win in his first start of the season.
