NEWARK, Delaware – Marist hung in with Grand Canyon but ultimately fell in the fifth set.
Megan Fergus was named to the all tournament team finishing the weekend with 33 kills and 9 total blocks.

Marist started the first set slow but regrouped itself to take the 25-20 win. The Red Foxes played great defense at the net, finishing with a total of seven blocks.
Stephanie Stone and
Taylor van der Biezen each had four blocks in the set.

After starting the second set on even ground, the Lopes widened their lead to 15-9 to force a time out. The Red Foxes would not recover and dropped set two 25-16. Grand Canyon had 15 kills to Marist's eight.

The Red Foxes took the lead early but Grand Canyon responded and the two teams traded leads several times throughout the set. A couple of errors from Grand Canyon gave Marist set point and
Megan Fergus sealed it with a kill.

Marist took an early lead in set four but the Lopes took control shortly after that. Grand Canyon had six service aces in the set to give them the edge in a 25-16 set win.

The Lopes took the momentum from set four into the final set to earn a 15-7 set win and a match win.

Marist opens up conference play at home next weekend. The Red Foxes play Canisius on Saturday, September 15 and Niagara Sunday September 16. Both matches will begin at 1 pm.
