Funk Scores 1,000th Career Point, But Marist Defeated At Iona

Senior Forward Sets Career High With Seven Three-Pointers

NEW ROCHELLE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team was defeated at Iona, 90-77, at the Hynes Center on Friday evening.
 
At the 12:35 mark of the first half, senior forward Ryan Funk scored his 1,000th career point on a corner three-pointer.

  • A three-pointer by senior guard David Knudsen opened the scoring, but Iona bounced back with seven straight points.
  • The Gaels built a 25-19 lead, but Marist scored nine straight points to take the lead. The run included two treys by Funk, and one by freshman point guard Darius Hines.

"I thought we shot the ball extremely well in the first half, which gave us an opportunity to stay close," head coach John Dunne said. "We opened the second half with some turnovers. We missed a bunch of good looks – we missed ours, they made theirs. They were really aggressive driving it, they created fouls, and got points at the foul line."
