BUFFALO, New York - Marist women's basketball defeated Canisius on Saturday afternoon to complete the road trip sweep and move to 2-0 in MAAC play. This marked the 13th time in 15 years the Red Foxes have swept the Buffalo road trip, with a record of 28-2 vs. Canisius and Niagara for this trip since 2005.

- Canisius got off to an early lead in the first, holding Marist to 31% shooting from the field and 11% from beyond the arc.
- The Golden Griffins led by one at the end of the quarter. Sarah Barcello had five points to pace Marist.
- Red Foxes got off to an 11-3 run to start the second thanks to five straight points by Grace Vander Weide.
- Marist found its shooting stroke a little more as Rebekah Hand, Alana Gilmer and Lovisa Henningsdottir all hit from 3-point land.
- Red Foxes led by as Many as 8, but Canisius surged to cut the score to 29-27 at halftime.
- Marist and Canisius were both held to 32% and 31% shooting in a gritty and defensive first half. Hinriksdottir and Patterson-Ricks had 8 each, while four Marist players had 5 points apiece.
- It was a tight battle at the beginning of the third as both teams scored nine early points.
- Canisius' Patterson-Ricks heated up with a pair of three-pointers to give the Golden Griffins their biggest lead since the first quarter.
- Gilmer sparked a 10-0 run towards the end of the third making 6 of 8 field goals, and the score was 55-49 entering the final period.
- Marist led by as many as 11 in the fourth, but Canisius fought hard to get as close as 69-65 until they had to begin fouling with less than a minute remaining.
- Gilmer hit her free throws and the Red Foxes came away with the win, 71-66
- The game had ten lead changes, with the teams being tied 16 separate times.
- This win mark's Gilmer's fifth 20-point game of the season.
- Marist is the first school in the Conference to reach a 2-0 record.
- The all-time record with Canisius has improved to 37-14.
"We had to grind it out today. Canisius had a nice gameplan and offensively they shot the ball really well, especially in second quarter," remarked Coach
Brian Giorgis. "We persevered and got another win on the road. It's a good trip any time you go 2-0 on the Buffalo road trip."

Marist returns home for a 2018 MAAC Championship rematch with Quinnipiac on Thursday, Jan. 10. The game begins at 12 p.m and will be aired on ESPNU.
