NIAGARA FALLS, New York - Marist men's soccer (3-4) will take on Niagara (2-6) in its first MAAC matchup of the season on Wednesday, October 2. The Red Foxes are coming off of a strong 3-1 win over Hofstra, while the Purple Eagles defeated St. Bonaventure at home by the same score.

- The Red Foxes picked up a strong 3-1 win over Hofstra on Wednesday, September 25.
- In the 39th minute, junior Allen Gavilanes got fouled in the penalty box. Junior Huib Achterkamp took the PK and converted it in the bottom-left corner, giving Marist a 1-0 lead.Â
- In the 59th minute, freshman Stefan Copetti rifled one past Hofstra's Alex Ashton off of a pass from Skylar Conway to double the lead. Â Â
- But just five minutes later, a Marist foul led to a penalty kick goal off the foot of Mathew Vowinkel to trim the deficit to 2-1.
- Gavilanes threaded the needle for a goal past three defenders in a 75th minute to seal the win for the Red Foxes.                       Â
- The Red Foxes rank 26th in the NCAA in corner kicks per game (6.29).
- Marist also sits at 52nd in shots per game (13.57).
- Allen Gavilanes is 10th in the nation ins shots per game (4.14).
- Every goal from the Red Foxes this season has been shot by a different player.
- Most recently, Huib Achterkamp, Stefan Copetti and Gavilanes have joined six others as Marist scorers.
- The Red Foxes are outshooting opponents 106-81, and have an advantage in shots on goal 39-34.
- Niagara defeated St. Bonaventure 3-1 on Tuesday, September 24.
- Every goal was scored in the first 35 minutes.
- Rodrigo Almeida, Luca Pancheco, and Dylan Avila found the net for the Purple Eagles.
- Goalie Josh Savoni tallied three saves.Â
- Marist is 12-7 against the Purple Eagles all time, winning the last five games.
- In 2018, the Red Foxes shut out Niagara 3-0 on Halloween to close the regular season.
- Samad Bounthong, Juan Parada and Justin Jaime each tallied goals. Gavilanes recorded two assists.
The Red Foxes continue MAAC play in Hamden, Connecticut to take on Quinnipiac on Wednesday, October 9. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
