Men's Soccer Hosts Siena for Senior Day

Five Red Foxes to be Honored Before Match with Upstate Rivals

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - This Saturday, Marist men's soccer (3-6, 0-2 MAAC) will face off with Siena (4-7, 1-2 MAAC) at 7 p.m. Before the game, the graduating Red Foxes will be honored for their years of commitment to the program with a Senior Day Ceremony.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes were defeated in a wild battle at Quinnipiac by a final tally of 5-3. The game featured four lead changes and three penalty kicks, and many Red Foxes displayed strong performances against the Bobcats.
  • Huib Achterkamp, Christian Curti and Samad Bounthong all scored their second goals of the season.
  • Samuel Ilin made a career-high nine saves in the contest.
  • Allen Gavilanes tallied a season-high two assists.
OFFENSIVE LEADERS
  • Gavilanes leads the team in points with six. He has scored one goal and handed out four assists.
  • Bounthong and Curti each have five points, having recorded two goals and an assist each.
  • Nine different Red Foxes have found the back of the net this season.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
  • Siena was defeated on Wednesday night by Monmouth, 1-2.
  • Conor McGlynn scored in the 85th minute to prevent the shutout for the Saints.
  • Alejandro Riquelme has been leading the charge for Siena all season, and ranks second in the MAAC in points with five goals and six assists.
  • Goalkeeper Greg Monroe ranks second in the conference in saves with 45 through ten games.
HISTORY VS. SIENA
  • The Red Foxes are 9-10 against the Saints all-time, and have won two of the last three.
  • Last season, Marist shut out Siena in Loudonville by a score of 3-0.
  • Gavilanes scored twice and Skylar Conway contributed a goal as well to cement the victory. 
  • Goalkeeper Ryan Sinnott stopped two shots to earn the shutout.
SENIOR DAY
  • The Red Fox seniors will be honored before the game for their hard work and commitment as part of the program.
  • The members of the Marist Men's Soccer Class of 2020 have amassed 29 wins and 15 conference victories in their four years on campus, reaching the playoffs twice.
  • They've earned wins over ranked opponents, received multiple MAAC All-Academic and All-MAAC honors, and have been a United Soccer Coaches Regionally-ranked team every season.
UP NEXT
Marist continues their homestand on Wednesday, October 16 against MAAC preseason-favorites Fairfield. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
