Women's Soccer Defeats Siena

Sasso's Second-Half Goal Lofts Marist Over Saints

LOUDONVILLE, New York - Junior captain Nicole Sasso scored in her second-straight game, tallying a second-half chance to give Marist the 1-0 victory over Siena on Saturday afternoon.

Marist improves to 6-7-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the MAAC,while Siena falls to 2-3-1 in conference play and 4-8-3 overall. The Red Foxes also snap their fourth-place tie with the Saints in the standings.
 
THE SUMMARY
  • Marist generated its first shot in goal in the ninth minute, as sophomore midfielder Abby Murphy's header was corralled.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Kelchner made her first two saves of the contest within three minutes of each other as the clock ticked under 15 minutes in the first half.
  • Nicole Sasso scored the game's only goal in the 48th minute. Siena's defense misplayed a corner kick, leaving Sasso with an open shot that she converted for her third goal of the season.
  • Sophomore forward Victoria Colatosti almost tied the contest a minute later, but was denied by Siena netminder Taylor Dorado.

UP NEXT
The Red Foxes head to Fairfield, CT to battle the Stags on Wednesday, October 16th at 7 p.m.. Fairfield is third in the MAAC with 12 points, while Marist is fourth at 10 points.
