POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist men's soccer (5-6, 2-2 MAAC) defeated MAAC preseason favorites Fairfield (2-5-4, 0-2-2 MAAC) on Wednesday night by a score of 2-1.
Antek Sienkiel scored the game-winner in the 98th minute to clinch the second-straight victory for the Red Foxes.

- The game got off to a slow start, with each team taking just one shot through the first 15 minutes.
- Marist got on the board in the 22nd minute. Stefan Copetti received a pass in the box, and then redirected back to a closing-in Allen Gavilanes who smashed it into the top right corner for the score.
- Fairfield created a scoring opportunity in the 35th minute with a cross that trickled in front of the goal, but Marcus Ginman and Michael Lorello both slid and booted the ball out the way to preserve the Red Fox lead.
- The Stags had another opportunity in the 66th minute when Fernando Robayo aimed a header at the bottom left corner, but Samuel Ilin got a hand on it for the deflection.
- Fairfield tied the game 70th minute with a goal from Diallo Simon-Ponte.
- The match was pushed into overtime as neither team could score in the final 20 minutes.
- Antek Sienkiel hit the game-winner in the 98th minute, heading in a pass from Copetti between Fairfield goalkeeper Gordon Botterill's to end the game.                  Â
- Copetti tallied an assist on both Marist goals. Â
- Gavilanes paced the offense with five shots and three shots on goal.
- The Red Foxes edged the Stags in shots 12-11 and shots on goal 5-4.Â
- Marist also led in corner kicks 10-5.
- Both Ilin and Botterill made three saves.
- The win marked Marist's second consecutive overtime win.
- Sienkiel assisted Copetti on Saturday's game winner, while Copetti dished to Sienkiel for tonight's golden goal.
- Gavilanes leads the team with eight points (2G, 4A), while Copetti is right behind him with seven points (2G, 3A).
- The Red Foxes are 5-1 at home.
Marist will travel to Riverdale, NY to take on MAAC rivals Manhattan on Saturday, October 19. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
