Men's Soccer Travels to Manhattan

The Red Foxes Look to Continue Streak Against Another MAAC Opponent

RIVERDALE, New York – The Marist men's soccer team (5-6-0, 2-2 MAAC) will travel to play Manhattan (3-7-0, 2-2 MAAC) on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Red Foxes are looking for their third straight win, having defeated Fairfield in overtime on Wednesday. The Jaspers are coming off a tough overtime loss to Rider, also on Wednesday.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes defeated Fairfield 2-1 in overtime.
  • Marist opened up the scoring with a goal from Allen Gavilanes scoring in the 21st minute. Stefan Copetti received a pass and then laid it off to Gavilanes for the finish.
  • Fairfield tied up the game midway through the second half. Diallo Simon-Ponte scored in the 70th minute.
  • The game was pushed into overtime, where Marist had three opportunities to score, and capitalized on the third.
  • Antek Sienkiel scored a header to end the game in the 98th minute, assisted once again by Copetti.
OFFENSIVE LEADERS
  • Gavilanes leads the team with eight points, two goals and four assists. He's followed by Stefan Copetti with seven points, two goals and three assists.
  • Huib Achterkamp leads the Red Foxes with three goals. The junior has gone 3-for-3 on penalty kicks.
  • Gavilanes joined Samad Bounthong, Christian Curti and Copetti with two goals each.
SCOUTING THE JASPERS
  • Manhattan lost to Rider and Iona in their last two contests, both in overtime.
  • Berti Fourrier is the top point holder for the team at seven, with two goals and three assists.
  • Fourrier and Moritz Riegel are the Jasper's top scorers with two goals apiece.
  • The Jasper's main keeper, Marcellin Gohier, has 34 saves on the year and a save percentage of .708.
HISTORY VS MANHATTAN
  • The Red Foxes have gone 15-10-2 all-time against the Jaspers.
  • Marist most recently defeated Manhattan 2-1 in 2018.
  • Skylar Conway and Samad Bounthong both scored and assisted each other to earn the win over the Jaspers.
NOTES
  • After just four games, both the Jaspers and the Red Foxes sit at sixth in the conference standings. With a win, either team could jump all the way to third place.
  • Allen Gavilanes ranks ninth n the nation and leads the MAAC with four shots per game.
  • The Red Foxes lead the conference and rank 16th nationally with 6.82 corner kicks per game.
  • Gavilanes is currently tied for fifth all-time in assists at Marist with 19.
