Jillian Colucci bent in a shot off the left post and into the net to lift Marist past Quinnipiac 1-0 in the second half on Wednesday evening at Tenney Stadium.
The Red Foxes notch their first win in MAAC play, settling their record at 1-1-1 in conference and 4-6-1 overall. Quinnipiac moves to 1-2 against the MAAC and 5-5 in 2019.
- Both sides flexed their defenses in the first half, as Quinnipiac outshot Marist by a scant 3-1 edge.
- The Red and White got on the board when redshirt sophomore midfielder Kristen Prevosto lofted a pass to Colucci in the right corner. Colucci turned and whipped the shot past Bobcat netminder Meaghan Phillips, and got the touch off the post and in.
- Quinnipiac dialed up the pressure, as Marist sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Kelchner had to make three saves in the next 12 minutes.
- Her most acrobatic save came in the 79th minute, when she dove to her left to snag a falling shot from Fleur Cordier.
- She capped her evening with two more saves, less than a minute from one another, in the 82nd minute.
- Quinnipiac had the advantage in shots and corner kicks, but Marist gathered more saves.
- Colucci and freshman defender Samantha Sturno registered shots.
- Kelchner recorded eight saves in 89:13, briefly leaving the leaving the field for an injury but returning to the pitch in the second half.
- Marist picks up its first win over Quinnipiac since 2015, pushing the series edge to 3-2-2 since 2013.
- Colucci added her first goal of the season, while Prevosto takes the team lead with 11 points.
- Kelchner has recorded at least seven saves in four-consecutive contests.
- Marist is now 2-1-1 at home this year.
- Dating back to 2018, Marist is on a four-match unbeaten streak at Tenney Stadium (3-0-1).
