Volleyball Hosts Rider and Saint Peter's this Weekend

Red Foxes Look to Continue Three-Match Winning Streak

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -  The Marist volleyball team is set to host two matches this weekend at McCann Arena. The Red Foxes will take on the Rider Broncs on Saturday, October 26 and then the Saint Peter's Peacocks the next day on Sunday, October 27. First serve for both matches will be at 1 p.m.

THIS WEEKEND'S PROMOS
  • Come out to McCann Arena for both of our matches this weekend to enjoy two special promotions. 
  • On Saturday against Rider, we will be hosting an autograph signing following the match. Stick around, and you will have the chance to receive a Marist signature, along with a free poster and a free Marist mini ball while supplies last. 
  • Celebrate Halloween in McCann Arena on Sunday against Saint Peter's, by joining us in our costume contest. Wear your best Halloween costume to the arena and you could have a chance to win a $25 gift certificate courtesy of Lola's. 
 
THIS WEEK'S FEATURE
  • This week's Red Fox Network feature video focuses on freshman middle blocker Gabby Murray.
  • Murray has been a dominant force for the Red Foxes in the middle of the court all season, totaling 115 kills and 37 total blocks on the year so far. 
  • Last match against Manhattan on Sunday, Murray totaled seven kills, five digs, four total blocks, and two service aces
  • In what was the best weekend of her young career, Murray had a record-setting performance on Saturday. The middle blocker out of Appleton, Wisconsin tallied a career-high 15 kills against Iona, and she did so on a .833 hitting percentage. This is tied for the highest hitting percentage in a single match (minimum 18 attempts) in the entire NCAA this season. It was also the highest hitting percentage of any Red Fox (minimum 15 kills) in the last 10 years.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes finished off a weekend road trip with a match MAAC match against Manhattan. Marist came away victorious beating the Jaspers in four sets, earning its third straight MAAC win.
  • With the win, the Red Foxes improved to 7-3 in MAAC play, taking sole possession of second place in the conference.
  • Megan Fergus led the game with 24 kills, and fell one dig short of her third consecutive double-double.
  • McKinley Fox recorded 48 assists as well as eight digs and two kills.
  • Sophia Theriot led the Foxes with a match-high 18 digs.
 
LAST TIME VS RIDER
  • Marist defeated the then conference leading and undefeated (at the time) Rider Broncs in five sets on Sunday, September 29.
  • Stephanie Stone joined Fergus in the top 10 on the program's all-time total blocks list in the victory.
  • Fergus lead the Foxes with 21 kills and six blocks to go along with an ace. She moved into ninth place on the all-time kills list in the match. 
  • Halle Carter had her second-consecutive 50 assist game, totaling an even 50, while she also had her third double-double of the season, adding 10 digs.
 
LAST TIME VS SAINT PETER'S
  • Marist defeated St. Peter's on September 28th, by a score of 3-2 in New Jersey.
  • The Foxes made a great comeback in the match, behind the leadership of Fergus who had personal scoring runs of 4-1 and 4-0 in the fifth set alone.
  • Fergus moved into the top 10 on Marist Volleyball all-time kills list, joining teammate Nikki DeSerpa.
  • Carter's 65 assists in the match were not only a career-high, but she also tied Dawn Jan for the third most assists in a single match in program history.
  • Austin and Fergus each added 20 digs to their match leading 22 kills and 21 kills, respectively. The only Red Fox in the last 10 years to tally a 20-20 kills/digs game was Kelsey Ediger, who totaled 22 kills and 23 digs against Rider on October 8, 2017. No pair of Marist teammates has reached that milestone in the same match within the last 10 years. 
 
SCOUTING RIDER
  • The Broncs are currently 6-4 in MAAC play and own an overall record of 9-13.
  • Rider is in the midst of a stretch of four straight road games, having won the first two.
  • Morgan Romano leads the Broncos with 370 kills on the year while Anilee Sher leads the team in assists with 731.
  • Evelyn Shanefield and Morgan Koch have led the defense for the Broncs this year ,with block totalsof 73 for Shanefield and 70 for Koch.
 
SCOUTING SAINT PETER'S
  • Saint Peter's comes into the weekend with a record of 3-19 and an 11-game losing streak. They lost to St. Francis Brooklyn last time out on Tuesday, October 22.
  • Alanis Alvarado leads St. Peters in kills this season with 248, while Angeleyshka Curbelo  is close behind with 229.
  • Wildalys Soto comes into the weekend with 587 assists on the year, leading the team by 523.
  • Karla Seda leads the Peacocks with 421 digs this season.
 
UP NEXT
The Red Foxes will set off on the road to play the Siena Saints in Loudonville, New York next Friday November 1st at 7 p.m. Then Marist will travel once again to play the Fairfield Stags in Fairfield, Connecticut next Wednesday November 6th at 7 p.m.
