Men's Soccer to Meet Monmouth at Home

Red Foxes Continue to Fight for Seeding in Final Three Games

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's soccer team (7-7, 4-3 MAAC) will host MAAC rivals Monmouth (1-11-2, 1-5-1 MAAC) on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The Red Foxes currently sit at fourth in the conference standings, and can easily move up with some wins to close the season.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes defeated Rider 2-1 on Saturday, October 26.
  • The game was scoreless until the 75th minute when Rider took the lead on a goal from Taner Bay.
  • Marist quickly answered with the game-tying goal in the 78th minute off the foot of junior Allen Gavilanes, assisted by Stefan Copetti.
  • The Red Foxes earned a penalty kick in the final ten seconds of regulation, and Huib Achterkamp scored to win the game.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
  • Monmouth is coming off of a 3-2 loss to Quinnipiac. They picked up their most recent win over Siena on October 9, but have gone 0-3-1 since then.
  • Ben Zakowski is leading the Hawks with four goals on the season.
  • Sean Murray has played every minute of every game in the goal, and has 56 saves for a percentage of 65.9.
HISTORY VS. MONMOUTH
  • Marist is 2-2-2 vs. the Hawks since they joined the MAAC. They are on a two-game winning streak dating back to 2017.
  • The Red Foxes won the last matchup 2-1 at Monmouth in double overtime. Samad Bounthong scored the game-tying goal in the 84th minute, then Gavilanes scored the golden goal in the 101st minute.
  • The Red Foxes outshot the Hawks 23-10 overall and 13-4 on goal, but Monmouth's Murray kept them in the game with 11 saves.

  • Huib Achterkamp is the top Red Fox scorer with six goals for 12 points. He has gone 5-for-5 on penalty kicks, and leads the NCAA in that category.
