Men's Tennis Heads To Army West Point Invite

Marist Wraps Up Fall Slate Of 2019-20 Campaign

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Men's Tennis concludes the fall portion of their schedule when they travel down to the West Point Invite, hosted by Army, from Friday, November 1 through Sunday, November 3.  
 
THE TOURNAMENT
  • The Foxes will go against seven teams in a three-day window.
  • Against certain teams, the Red Foxes will face off in singles flights, and others in doubles play.
  • Their match against Monmouth will not count towards each team's conference records. This will occur when the teams meet in their regular season dual matches.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • As a team, Marist's last performance was on October 13 at Rider where they won 7-0.
  • Two Red Foxes, senior Lars Schouten and junior Nestor Giribet Lopez, also competed in the ITA Northeast Regionals on Friday, October 18.
  • They both fell in their singles matches, Giribet Lopez in the qualifiers (2-6, 2-6) and Schouten in the main draw (6-4, 3-6, 4-6).
  • The two also competed in the doubles main draw, where they fell to Monmouth 8-2.
 
THE SCHEDULE
  • Friday:
    • Marist vs Monmouth (Doubles) at 1 p.m.
    • Marist vs UConn (Singles) at 2 p.m.
  • Saturday:
    • Marist vs Holy Cross (Doubles) at 9 a.m.
    • Marist vs NJIT (Doubles) at Noon.
    • Marist vs Army (Singles) at 1:30 p.m.
  • Sunday:
    • Marist vs St. Bonaventure (Doubles) at 10 a.m.
    • Marist vs St. John's (Singles) at 1 p.m.
 
SCOUTING MONMOUTH
  • Last time out at the ITA Northeast Regionals, Monmouth went 2-6 in singles and 1-2 in doubles.
  • Austin Klapman and Charles Gortzounian picked up the singles wins.
  • The duo of Max Benaim and Sergio Martinez defeated Schouten and Giribet Lopez 8-2.
 
SCOUTING UCONN
  • The Huskies are 1-1 thus far in the 2019-20 season.
  • John Michael Holtmann took the win in the ITA singles against Lehigh: 6-1, 3-6, 12-10.
 
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
  • The Crusaders are currently 5-2 in dual matches.
  • Holy Cross defeated Assumption 5-2 in its last match.
  • Will Chen won both the No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-0) and the No. 1 doubles with Alexander Ruenhorst (6-2).
 
SCOUTING NJIT
  • The Highlanders sent two players to ITAs: freshman Tin Dizdarevic and junior captain Abdullah Fouad.
  • Fouad finished the tournament 1-1 in singles, while Dizdarevic went 0-2. The two also lost in doubles.
 
SCOUTING ARMY WEST POINT
  • Freshman Thomas Lake had a great run at ITAs, advancing to the round of 32 before falling to the No. 7 seed from Harvard, Ronan Jachuck (4-6, 3-6).
  • The team of Myles Conlin and A.J. Woodman also fell in the round of 32 to Karl Poling and Damian Rodriguez of Princeton (8-2).
 
SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
  • The Bonnies went 17-4 against Roberts Wesleyan and Niagara at their own Fall Classic this past weekend.
  • Sophomore Martin Estevarena and freshman Andres Vergara won four matches each.
  • They each won two singles and two doubles matches.
 
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
  • The Red Storm saw action at ITAs, where they had seven players in the 128-player main singles draw and two doubles teams.
  • Aditya Vashistha and Ignacio Garcia both fell in the round of 32.
  • Garcia and Charlie James got eliminated in the second round by Cornell 9-8(3).
 
LOOKING AHEAD
  • The invite ends the fall portion of the schedule for Marist Tennis as the season will continue in the spring semester.
  • Marist carries the lone conference win over the Broncs into 2020.
